Senior Resource Link, a new initiative designed to support older adults living on both sides of City Avenue, is holding a kickoff event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 4100 Presidential Avenue on Sunday, February 21st from 2 to 4pm.
Dr. Brian McDonough, chairman of Family Medicine at St. Francis Hospital and medical editor for KYW Newsradio, will be speaking at the event about staying healthy as you age. Live musical entertainment and food will also be provided.
The Senior Resource Link will assist residents of zip codes 19131, 19151, and 19004 who are 60 years of age or older to safely continue to live in their homes with enhanced connections to their communities. The Link, spearheaded by Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) of Greater Philadelphia, is a collaboration of over 20 area senior service and health care providers, community groups, and religious institutions. The Link will initiate the provision of services by linking older residents to existing programs and funding additional services such as transportation and home repair assistance for seniors.
“Our surveys show that a high percentage of residents of zip codes 19131, 19151, and 19004 are age 60 and above,” said Karen Reever, JFCS’ director of Senior Services. “Most of these older residents want to stay in their current homes and communities where they have friends and family, and relationships with area institutions and businesses, rather than moving to a retirement community, assisted living, or nursing home.”
“The overarching goal of this network is to make these communities more aging-friendly,” Reever added, “which improves the quality of life for all the community’s residents.”
With a rich tradition of over 155 years, JFCS provides quality social and community services across the life spectrum to enhance the lives of families, children and individuals. Guided by Jewish values, the services are available to all in the Greater Philadelphia Region.
