In Sonoma County, California, Clay Greene, a 78-year-old, agreed to a $653,000 settlement with the local government and a nursing home. The country denied the same-sex couples relationship, forced them to sell their house, move into separate nursing homes and kept them apart until Greenes partner died in 2008. The county said it agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense of a trial.
