Celebrating seniors & urban agriculture in Philadelphia!
Community gardens can provide elders with the opportunity to grow their own food, exercise, share their knowledge, and express creativity. These gallivants built upon GenPhilly’s Germinating Partnerships event, which brought together professionals from a variety of disciplines to spark conversation and projects around elder-friendly gardens.
Gallivants took place at Klein JCC in May and at Guild House West in June.
|Klein JCC, an intergenerational community center, operates a 24’x36′ Hoop House that operates March to November and a 24’x24′ garden that operates May to September. Come out to mix and mingle in the garden and for a lesson on container gardening and transplanting.www.kleinjcc.org
|Guild House West, a senior housing facility, has transformed its lawn into garden space. The growing season stretches from April to November. Come out for various garden stations and a presentation about the therapeutic benefits of gardens.www.guildhousegardens.org
