Emergency Fund for Older Philadelphians in CRISIS

The Emergency Fund for Older Philadelphians, which provides crisis assistance to help low-income seniors purchase food, fuel, medications and other necessities, is itself in crisis. Its balance is just $22,000, which is down from $126,620 at this time last year. While funding has decreased dramatically, the need for assistance is increasing going into the winter season, which sees the highest demand for assistance. Last year, $281,866 in crisis assistance was provided. The Emergency Fund relies on corporate and foundation giving, donations from individuals and funds raised by the 22 member agencies of the Emergency Fund Coalition.
